I Can’t Believe Jennifer Lopez’s “Naked” Nails Aren’t Real — See Photo

This manicure is a summery version of the nearly bare manicure trend.

Naked nails continue to have their moment, with all-but-bare manicures showing up on every imaginable red carpet. And with summer on the horizon, naked nails look a little different than winter and spring naked nails, especially if you consider your manicure an extension of your skin, like Jennifer Lopez currently seems to.

I don’t know about you, but summer skin just hits different. It’s a different kind of radiance. It’s faux-sun-kissed (please, for the love of all things holy, choose self-tanner over laying out if you’re going for a tanned look), glowing from a heaping helping of sunscreen, and perhaps misted in a light layer of body shimmer. Can you think of a more summery look? And with the help of nail artist Tom Bachik, J. Lo extended that vibe to her nails.

Bachik posted a closeup of Lopez in which she’s holding up her hand to her face (glam makeup look and all) showing off a wonderfully warm version of naked nails. The oval shape is long but not too long, with a sheer, slightly tan polish topped off with a hint of shimmer — sheer enough that you can see the slight contrast of Lopez’s tips.

But what’s wild is that, even though this summer-skin version of a naked manicure looks like it’s been done on Lopez’s natural nails, they’re actually not her nails.

Bachik explains in the caption how he created the look, which starts off with clear Aprés Nails gel tips. He then used the brand’s Light & Shadow gel polish in the shade Be Still, followed by Kokoist USA’s Ultra Diamond Non Wipe Top Coat Gel for a micro-shimmer effect.

We’re calling it right now: Even though it’s not technically summer yet, this is clearly going to be the manicure of the summer.
