Bim Bim Gallery, Paris // July 01, 2023 – July 22, 2023
We are huge fans of the works of Hannah Wilson, the Glaswegian painter we had in A Portfolio this year. One of the reasons was her show at Bim Bim in Paris we knew was coming up in the summer, and now there is a few more days to see these fantastic paintings of snippets of everyday life, like zooming into intimate moments that are not your own but a stranger walking by.
With this series of paintings, Hannah Wilson expresses her personal interpretation of masculinity as seen by cinema, which she uses to define her own identity: “The starting point for this exhibition was the film Raging Bull, by Martin Scorsese. Its central character, Jake LaMotta, is brutal, violent and driven by his base instincts. However, he lacks the emotional maturity to deal with the consequences of his actions. It’s an endless cycle: do evil then seek penance, but never change. It’s something that stayed with me and I knew I wanted to make it the theme of my exhibition.”
