Euphoria Actor Angus Cloud’s Cause of Death Revealed

Angus Cloud is being remembered for his life out of the spotlight.

Two months after he died of an accidental overdose at age 25, the actor’s loved ones are sharing their most precious memories of him growing up in Oakland, Calif.

Years before he played the drug dealer Fezco on the HBO show Euphoria, Cloud—real name Conor Angus Cloud Hickey—was a teenager in the East Bay working at Whole Foods and collecting Powerpuff Girls action figures, according to his friends who spoke to People in an article published Oct. 6.

His childhood pal Ibrahim Dioum told the outlet, “Conor wasn’t afraid of anything,” while another friend Tre Sorensen noted, “He was just fearless, man.”

“Conor would be just standing in the projects, and it was really scary, but he was hella happy. His bed was on the floor with this tiny little window next to it,” Dioum said. “He would put his juice boxes outside the window in the snow and later grab the juice when it was cold and drink it. It was so hilarious and cool. That was just him.”

Another friend, identified as Lilita, said his ability to go with the flow is really what “drew a lot of people to him.”

“He hyped us up and had us do a bunch of things and tried things that we would’ve never done without him or thought of,” explained Lilita, who named Cloud the godfather of her 2-year-old son. “There are so many different things I’ve done and definitely wouldn’t have done without his influence and just him always turning up the vibe with that fearlessness or being like Peter Pan.”

The friend added, “He always made us believe we could do anything like he did.”

After graduating in 2016 from the Oakland School for the Arts—which costar Zendaya also attended—Cloud moved to Brooklyn and lived with Dioum. It was in New York that he was scouted on the streets and ultimately cast in Euphoria; he was expected to return for the high school drama’s third season.

In light of his death, Cloud’s high school community is now coming together to raise $2 million to develop a skate park in his name.

“Despite his early career success, Angus grappled with many of the same issues as his peers and youth nationwide,” reads the GoFundMe for the project. “Cloud Park will be a vehicle to not only acknowledge the mental health challenges and substance use disorders that youth often face, but also be a place to uplift OSA students and the positivity of Oakland youth culture.”

Pro skateboarder Tony Hawk, has also expressed support for the park, telling People his charity foundation The Skatepark Project values “the building of spaces that support creativity; and to establish this park in honor of Angus Cloud, a talented actor and skater who cared deeply for his community and was lost too soon is fitting.”

Cloud passed away July 31 at his family’s home in Oakland, with authorities later confirming his cause of death as a combination of fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine and more. The Alameda County Coroner ruled his death as an accidental overdose.

“It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today,” his family said at the time of his death. “As an artist, a friend, a brother and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways.”

“Words are not enough to describe the infinite beauty that is Angus (Conor). I’m so grateful I got the chance to know him in this life, to call him a brother, to see his warm kind eyes and bright smile, or hear his infectious cackle of a laugh (I’m smiling now just thinking of it) I know people use this expression often when talking about folks they love…”they could light up any room they entered” but boy let me tell you, he was the best at it. I’d like to remember him that way. For all of the boundless light, love and joy he always managed to give us. I’ll cherish every moment. My heart is with his mother and family at this time and please be kind and patient as grief looks different for everyone.”

You will be missed more than you know, but I’m so blessed to have known you in this lifetime, and I’m sure everyone who has ever met you feels the same. This heartache is real and I wish we could’ve had one more hug and 711 run. All my love is with you.”

“There was no one quite like Angus. He was too special, too talented and way too young to leave us so soon… He also struggled, like many of us, with addiction and depression. I hope he knew how many hearts he touched. I loved him. I always will. Rest in peace and God Bless his family.”
