Best Body Oil Overall: Osea Undaria Algae Body Oil
Osea
Osea Undaria Algae Body Oil
Why It’s Worth It: If the Osea Undaria Algae Body Oil is good enough for Hailey Bieber’s glazed donut skin, it’s good enough for our routines. This golden elixir is a skin-conditioning favorite amongst celebrities and beauty editors for its moisture-replenishing blend of açai, babassu, and passionfruit oils. It’s also rich in radiance-boosting antioxidants, thanks to seaweed extract. If you’re tatted up, the brand says this oil is great for improving the vibrancy of fully healed tattoos.
Editor Tip: Osea’s Undaria Algae Body Butter is another rich option for people with extremely dry skin. “My skin is so dry that I usually need to layer on a serum-like formula underneath lotions—especially at night,” shopping director Shanna Shipin previously noted. “But Osea’s Undaria Body Butter is so nourishing that my body stays hydrated all night long and I wake up with happy, plump (and heavenly-smelling) skin.”
Key Ingredients: Açai oil, babassu oil, passionfruit oil, seaweed extract, rice bran oil | Fragrance-Free: No
Best Body Oil for Intimate Areas: Fur Oil
Why It’s Worth It: Our intimate bits and pubic hair deserve just as much skin care as the rest of our bodies, and for this, we reach for the game-changing Fur Oil. This hair- and skin-softening concoction of grapeseed and jojoba oils to condition and plump just about every inch of hair and skin on your body. This versatile formula—which can be used on the face, chest, underarms, legs, and even on your cuticles as a softening treatment or on split ends—is spiked with tea tree oil, an antimicrobial ingredient that minimizes the look and painful feel of ingrown hairs and body acne.
Tester Feedback: Commerce writer Jennifer Hussein says it’s a must-have in her body-care regimen to keep blemishes and bumps at an all-time minimum. “As a naturally hairy person, I’m especially prone to ingrown hairs and clogged pores, but Fur’s Oil has a soothing formulation that somehow makes the path for hair growth much easier on my skin and body hair,” she says. “I used to pick at every red bump until it bled and left a nasty scar out of habit and discomfort, but with this soothing oil, I’ve officially broken up with my tweezers and let my body hair do its thing—until it’s time for my monthly wax, of course.”
Key Ingredients: Grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, tea tree oil | Fragrance-Free: Yes

Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I use body oil?
The best body oils leave your skin feeling soft and glowy while simultaneously moisturizing and strengthening your skin barrier, according to New York City-based board-certified dermatologist Michele Green, MD. Oils offer long-lasting hydration for all skin types without stickiness, grease, or waxy residue, unlike denser body lotions, Dr. Green adds. “Many people might assume that using a body oil would do the opposite and cause the skin to feel greasy, but body oils tend to be fast-absorbing,” she explains.
Head-to-toe elixirs are especially essential in warmer weather since oils can replenish any moisture lost due to heat and other causes. “Being in chlorine pools, the beach, and the sun over the summer can leave our skin feeling dry and dull,” New York City-based board-certified dermatologist Marina Peredo, MD, notes.
Which ingredients should I look for in body oils?
According to Dr. Hibler, you should look for body oils that contain anti-inflammatory ingredients, such as rosehip seed and jojoba oils, which “mimic the natural oil in our skin so it won’t clog pores.” He also recommends squalane, which he describes as a “great emollient” that’s “especially great for acne-prone skin.” Dr. Green also shouts out vitamin E, which acts as both a humectant (to absorb water into the skin) and an emollient (to trap water in the skin)—plus, it also protects skin against environmental irritants and pollutants.
For oily and acne-prone skin types, common comedogenic (a.k.a. pore-clogging) ingredients like coconut oil, cocoa butter, and beeswax may exacerbate acne breakouts and should be avoided. Meanwhile, those with sensitive skin should avoid body oils with synthetic fragrances and dyes, says Zenovia Gabriel, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in Newport Beach, California.

How we test and review products
When Allure tests a product, our editors look at it from every angle in an effort to best serve you. We review ingredients, scrutinize brand claims, and, when necessary, examine peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies. In addition to testing each and every product that’s included in each and every review, we rely on experts who shape their fields, including dermatology, cosmetic chemistry, and medicine, to help us vet the ingredients and formulas.
For our list of the best body oils, we considered each product’s performance across five primary categories: product ingredients and efficacy, packaging, fragrance, texture, and product wear. Every product was determined to have excelled in each category by our editorial team, which is composed of in-house writers and editors as well as contributors—along with special consideration from dermatologists. To learn more information on our reporting and testing processes, read our complete reviews process and methodology page.
Our staff and testers
A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.
After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the “best” for people over 50 if the only testers we’ve solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We’re proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.
